The philosophy behind Salt + Stone Saunas is born in creating Temples. In modern society, many are spiritually orphaned as the traditional faiths have not always resonated with them. When man-made faiths don’t serve us, some have gone to the elements to find our place. We get to go to the land + Mother Nature to find who we are. This is also honoring the ancient ways of being human on this earth. The land and its elements have all the healing we might ever need.
The intention behind Salt + Stone is to return to the elements and return to the land. Through the cedar and stone, through the heat, the water and steam, the air moving through + passing over us, we get to remember who we are. Through the salt in our bodies and in the air, we cleanse and return anew.
Saunas are places of healing, places to gather, to sing and to commune together. Saunas are not just a place to sweat. The original tradition of the sauna was as sacred places, community centers, places to share story and song, and even as hospitals as they were the safest and most sterile place to give birth. They were pillars of their community. The sauna is a temple where we get closer to the elements and Mother Nature and therefore closer to ourselves.
The designs are meant to provide a more authentic sauna experience, saving energy, providing proper ventilation, and creating a seamless experience, inviting in the essence and spirit of the sauna. All these components and the fine finish quality make it a temple and not just a sweat box.
